Belén Molinero, fashion designer born in Madrid in 1971, is in charge of the prêt a porter and haute couture collections of the Molinero family fashion house.
She took her first steps in fashion as a child, growing up in the midst of a family dedicated to their business. Although she then pursued law and business studies, she eventually returned to her early passion for fashion, moving to the United States for her studies, starting out at New York’s Art Students League, where she developed skills ranging from technical drawing to oil painting.
She then studies fashion design at the Parsons School, combining her New York studies with an internship in the design studio of Donna Karan. After graduating in 2001, she moved to Paris to work in the studio of Karl Lagerfeld - Lagerfeld Gallery - as a stylist. She left the studio after three years, but maintained her relationship with Karl Lagerfeld on a freelance basis, helping design and produce three of his seasons of prêt a porter fashion shows.
Back in Madrid, Belén Molinero has been working as the lead designer in her family’s haute couture house, Molinero, focusing on made-to-measure outfits for special occasions. White this remains her main activity to date, she is now launching her first prêt a porter collection, spring and summer 2013.
